Market Screening: Marin + Sacred Symmetry | Music Meets Architecture
MARIN
MARIN is a visionary animated film that transforms Axel Borup-Jørgensen's symphonic masterpiece Marin, op. 60 into a deep sensory experience. Set in an underwater world of "marenes," the movie eschews traditional narrative, focusing instead on symbols of human subconscious forces. This approach invites viewers to immerse themselves in the raw sensations and intricate textures of the music, rather than following a linear progression. Inspired by the composer’s own drawings, the film seamlessly bridges sound and imagery, offering a profound exploration of emotion and presence. A re-recorded score, led by Thomas Søndergård, amplifies this meditative journey.

Sacred Symmetry: Music Meets Architecture
The strict architectural precision in Bach's music is mirrored in Peter Mark’s striking film, which pairs Suite no. 2 in D Minor, BWV 1008, performed by Henrik Dam Thomsen, with the iconic Grundtvig’s Church. This fusion of music and architecture deepens our experience of both art forms. Built to honor Danish democracy pioneer N.F.S. Grundtvig, the church was designed by Kaare Klint (1888–1954) and completed in 1940. The film captures the synergy between Bach’s musical structure and the church’s austere modern design, creating a powerful aesthetic dialogue.
